Host a Website from Your Computer Hosting your own website is probably the coolest thing you can do. Run your own game server, blog or Youtube™ (without the limitations),
the possibilities are endless. In my case I am serving a photo library like Flickr™ for all my friends and family. Each person can have their own
area to keep their photos and they can share them or not, even password protect them! The best part is there are no restrictions! if I see a photo
of my grandaughter that I would like a print of for my office I can download it at it's highest resolution and print it on my photo quality printer. No
ordering prints that cost an arm and a leg and waiting for them to be delivered. You can even set it up with a shopping cart and sell your photos! Maybe
you're a wedding photographer. After a LONG day taking pictures of that perfect wedding you come home and slip that digital card from your camera into YOUR
computer and in no time your photos are available on the web. Password protect them so that they are only accessable to the people that the bride and groom
decide should have access and start selling prints to all those friends and relatives who want them. The things you can do are only limited by your imagination.

Share Files with Friends and Relatives Through FTP
Forget the typical size restrictions offered by most discount internet service providers. Your only size restriction is the amount of space on
your hard drive. I am currently running an FTP site of 120 Gigabytes! Imagine what that would cost from a regular ISP. Personally I have my entire media
collection available. Everything from movies(...uh home movies of course), to audio books, to 30 Gigs of music (
...um gregorian chants recorded by me while in an ice cream coma).with plenty of room to spare. I can share this treasure trove of exceptional creativity
with anyone that I give access to. Think about what You could share!

Run Your Computer from Anywhere in the World
Use the VNC protocol to operate your home computer from anywhere you have internet access. VNC essentially "converts" the computer you're using
into whichever computer you are connecting to. Imagine sitting in a Starbucks in Boston, logging on to your computer in Minnisota
and typing a letter using Word then printing it on your home printer. Or maybe you have a situation like mine where your folks live in Florida
and are having a problem doing something on their computer. You can log on to it and SHOW them how it's done because they can see everything you
do. You are using THEIR computer.

How it WorksIf you have a typical internet connection, then you have whats called a "dynamic IP address". The IP address is like the street address or phone number to your computer. Just as each street address and phone number uniquely identifies a building or telephone, an IP address can uniquely identify a specific computer on a network. The difference between an IP address and a mail address or phone number is that an IP address's link to a person's name is not publically available. To make things more complicated, IP addresses are dynamically assigned by your Internet Service Provider which means it changes at their discretion. What Ghost IP does is work like a switchboard, constantly checking and updating your IP address. When your service is selected a connection is automatically made to your computer if you are serving a website. Otherwise your current IP address is displayed for input into whatever VNC or FTP software is being used. |
